Wednesday's Major League Soccer predictions including Red Bulls vs. Cincinnati

Sports Mole provides score predictions and previews for all of today's Major League Soccer fixtures, including New York Red Bulls vs. Cincinnati.

New England vs. Atlanta (Thursday, 12.30am)

Two sides separated by just two points at the top end of the Major League Soccer Eastern Conference will do battle on Wednesday, as New England Revolution welcome Atlanta United to the Gillette Stadium.

Despite suffering a defeat at the weekend, the hosts remain third, two places above their visitors with a game in hand ahead of their 22nd MLS fixture.

We say: New England Revolution 1-2 Atlanta United

Atlanta United will travel with confidence on the back of consecutive victories, while the hosts may have lost a degree of momentum and are missing several key players.

We fancy Pineda's men to take a major scalp on their travels and leapfrog the Revs with a victory.

NY Red Bulls vs. Cincinnati (Thursday, 12.30am)

FC Cincinnati will look to further strengthen their position at the summit of the Major League Soccer Eastern Conference table on Wednesday, when they travel to take on New York Red Bulls.

The visitors currently sit seven points clear of second place after 21 league outings, while their visitors will bid to break into the top nine following an important win over New England Revolution last time out.

We say: New York Red Bulls 1-1 FC Cincinnati

FC Cincinnati's momentum has slowed slightly, and they are missing several key players, while the hosts are gaining in confidence, and we fancy the Red Bulls to get a positive result on home turf.

Chicago Fire vs. Montreal (Thursday, 1.30am)

CF Montreal can end a five-match winless run away from home in MLS when they travel to Soldier Field for a Wednesday date with the Chicago Fire.

It will be the second of four straight matches for Chicago in the Windy City after the Fire defeated Nashville SC 1-0 this past weekend, while Le CFM suffered a 1-0 defeat versus Atlanta United.

We say: Chicago Fire 2-0 CF Montreal

The Fire have been a lot sharper along the back end in recent outings, and we expect to see a highly motivated Kamara in the mood to do some damage to his former team.

Montreal do not seem to have the same swagger on the road that we saw a year ago, and they have not been all that convincing when in possession over the past few weeks.

Houston vs. Minnesota Utd (Thursday, 1.30am)

Houston Dynamo FC head coach Ben Olsen reacts during the first half on June 21, 2023© Reuters

Houston Dynamo will be aiming to move inside the automatic play-off positions with a positive result against Minnesota United on Thursday.

The visitors, meanwhile, head into the encounter four points behind their forthcoming opponents with a game in hand on them.

We say: Houston Dynamo 3-1 Minnesota United

Neither side will head into this match in the greatest of form, but Houston appear to have a little more about them at present, and their general mood should be improved after salvaging a draw in the dying stages of their last match.

Minnesota Utd, on the other hand, were thrashed by Austin last time out, and their season may be heading into a state of decline. We can envisage the hosts picking up a crucial victory.

Kansas vs. Salt Lake (Thursday, 1.30am)

Sporting Kansas City head coach Peter Vermes gestures on May 28, 2023© Reuters

Sporting Kansas City will be hoping to move into the MLS playoff places when they take on Real Salt Lake at Children's Mercy Park on Wednesday night.

The hosts are currently in 10th place, level on points with ninth-placed Vancouver Whitecaps, who occupy the final spot in the playoffs, while the visitors are enjoying a very good season, sitting up in fourth place.

We say: Sporting Kansas City 0-1 Real Salt Lake

Sporting Kansas City have improved massively since their very poor start to the season, but they have started to return to the mean a little in recent weeks, picking up just one win in their last five games.

With Real Salt Lake in excellent form, having won five of their last seven league games, we expect them to emerge as narrow victors, continuing their upward trajectory in the league table.

Colorado vs. Portland (Thursday, 2.00am)

Colorado Rapids head coach Robin Fraser looks on on June 24, 2023© Reuters

Two teams struggling towards the bottom of the Western Conference in the MLS will lock horns on Tuesday, with Colorado Rapids welcoming Portland Timbers to DSG Park.

The home side are rock bottom of the table on 14 points from 20 games, while Portland occupy 12th position, picking up 22 points from their opening 21 matches of the campaign.

We say: Colorado Rapids 1-1 Portland Timbers

Colorado have shared the points in five of their nine home league games this season, while Portland have won just once on their travels. We are therefore finding it difficult to back either side with any real confidence here, with a low-scoring draw the most likely outcome on Tuesday.

Los Angeles vs. St Louis City (Thursday, 3.30am)

Los Angeles FC can close the gap between themselves and St Louis City atop the MLS Western Conference standings when both sides face each other on Wednesday at BMO Stadium.

The Black and Gold could only manage a 1-1 draw at home to the San Jose Earthquakes this weekend, dropping them down to third, five points behind St Louis, who are first in the west after getting past Toronto 1-0.

We say: Los Angeles FC 2-0 St Louis City

The Black and Gold have continuously found ways to pick themselves back up when in a slump, and we expect a determined and solid all-around performance from them this week.

St Louis are happy to hang back and allow opposing teams easy access to its half of the field, however, pressing effectively in the humid California conditions could be tricky, as could containing a side with a lot more depth and quality in the attacking third than their previous two opponents (the Colorado Rapids and Toronto).

Earthquakes vs. Seattle (Thursday, 3.30am)

San Jose Earthquakes forward Cristian Espinoza (10) celebrates after scoring a goal on July 2, 2023© Reuters

San Jose Earthquakes will be hoping to hold onto their spot inside the automatic play-off positions when they host Seattle Sounders on Thursday.

Seattle, meanwhile, have moved up to second place in the Western Conference table by recording back-to-back victories.

We say: San Jose Earthquakes 1-1 Seattle Sounders

San Jose have drawn their last two matches, and we can envisage them having to settle for a point once again, with Seattle unlikely to push too hard for a victory having won their last two games.

Both sides will be hoping that avoiding defeat proves enough to maintain their positions in the table, as they desperately look to qualify for the end of season play-offs.

Vancouver vs. Austin (Thursday, 3.30am)

Vancouver Whitecaps defender Mathias Laborda (2) receives a red card on July 9, 2023© Reuters

On Wednesday, the Vancouver Whitecaps will play their second of four consecutive MLS matches at BC Place Stadium when they take on Austin FC.

The Caps' homestand began on a sour note as they squandered a pair of second-half advantages, dropping a 3-2 decision to the Seattle Sounders, while the Verde and Black won on the road for only the third time this season, defeating Minnesota United 4-1.

We say: Vancouver Whitecaps 2-1 Austin FC

The Whitecaps have been a resilient group throughout the campaign, and we believe they will be able to transition efficiently versus Austin, who are missing their solid defensive midfielder Pereira, which could spell trouble for the Verde and Black.
