Half-Time Report: Manchester City in control at Newcastle United

Sergio Aguero and Javi Garcia give Manchester City a 2-0 half-time lead over Newcastle in today's Premier League clash at St James' Park.

Manchester City hold a 2-0 half-time lead over Newcastle United in today's Premier League clash at St James' Park.

Despite a slow start, the visitors dominated their opponents in the opening 45 minutes and they got their advantage with goals from Sergio Aguero and Javi Garcia.

The home side started strongly and they could have taken the lead with just two minutes on the clock as Papiss Cisse's volley was tipped away by Joe Hart.

However, City made the breakthrough on 10 minutes when Yaya Toure's incisive pass found Samir Nasri, who squared to Aguero to tap in.

The visitors were soon in the ascendancy and they could have doubled their lead minutes later but for Tim Krul's instinctive save from Carlos Tevez's close-range effort.

The woodwork then came to Newcastle's rescue midway through the half as Nasri hit the post from the angle following David Silva's pass.

The champions made it 2-0 in comical circumstances in the 38th minute when Davide Santon missed the ball on the line in his attempt to clear Javi Garcia's header from a corner.
