Shola Ameobi "extremely frustrated" by goal drought

Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi admits that he is "extremely frustrated" by his current goal drought.

Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi has admitted that he is "extremely frustrated" by his current goal drought.

The Nigerian international, 32, last found the net in the Premier League nearly one year ago against Queens Park Rangers.

Despite his struggles to get on the scoresheet during the past 12 months, Ameobi is confident that he will be among the goals sooner rather than later.

"I am extremely frustrated," he told the Evening Chronicle. "I am playing well but not scoring goals. As a striker you gain confidence from scoring goals.

"I have to add them to my game in the rest of the season. I am working hard in training to make sure I get into positions and hopefully they will come soon.

"When the team is winning, you want to get in among the goals. Hopefully, I will put it right in the next few games."

Sixth-placed Newcastle continue their Premier League campaign on Saturday when they face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
