Newcastle United 'remains up for sale despite breakdown of takeover talks'

Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley remains open to selling the club, despite talks with Amanda Staveley and PCP Partners breaking down.

Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley remains open to selling the Premier League club, despite the collapse of takeover talks with Amanda Staveley-led firm PCP Capital Partners.

On Tuesday, the businessman released a statement via Sky Sports News confirming that a deal has not been struck.

In fact, the Sports Direct owner claimed that discussions with Staveley and her team were a "waste of time", but according to The Chronicle, Ashley is still open to listening to offers from any bidder, as long as the figure is upwards of £300m.

The report claims that the Newcastle owner will turn away any investors who have clauses, including price reduction in the event that the North-East club are relegated.

The publication claims that Staveley and PCP Partners have not withdrawn their offer and remain interested in buying the club.
