Nolan: 'Newcastle gave me broken promises'

Kevin Nolan claims he was betrayed by Newcastle United managing director Derek Llambias, forcing him out of the club.

Kevin Nolan has claimed that he was betrayed by Newcastle United managing director Derek Llambias, forcing him out of the club.

Nolan joined West Ham United over the summer for an undisclosed fee, reuniting him with Sam Allardyce, who managed the midfielder at Bolton Wanderers and on Tyneside.

The 29-year-old claims that he was in discussions with the Newcastle board to sign a new deal but was surprised by the eventual offer.

"I discussed the deal at length with managing director Derek Llambias and even shook hands on it. In my book when you do that man-to-man you expect them to see it through.

"But what we talked about and what they finally offered me was laughable. They did a U-turn on what we agreed. They showed me no respect. I felt totally betrayed.

"Then they had the nerve to claim I rejected a new contract. What contract?" he added.

Nolan's criticism of the Newcastle hierarchy comes amidst more unrest at the club after Jose Enrique and Joey Barton questioned the board's ambition following the sales of Nolan and striker Andy Carroll to Liverpool.
