Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has given his players credit for 'standing up' to the pressure mounted on them in recent weeks.
The Magpies managed to secure a 3-0 win over Wigan Athletic last night following five Premier League defeats in a row.
"We were under pressure and our players had to stand up that and they did," Pardew told The Chronicle. "They should be applauded for that. Confidence is important. Whatever level of football you play at, everybody needs confidence."
Newcastle sit in 14th place in the league table with 17 points.
