Alan Pardew: "I understand the fans' frustration"

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew admits that he understands the fans' frustration after the heavy defeat to Manchester United on Saturday.

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has sympathised with the club's fans, insisting that he understands their frustration with the way the team are currently performing.

The Magpies suffered a 4-0 defeat to Manchester United on Saturday to make it three consecutive losses, with 11 goals conceded.

Pardew expressed his disappointment with the results and admitted that he was aware that the fans are not seeing the exciting football that they expect.

"The last few results, particularly the last three, have been tough, tough games for us," Pardew told reporters. "The opposition has been above us, there's no doubt about that, and we've not really had any breaks in the games.

"We had chances [against Manchester United] - the first goal was essential for us and we didn't get it. It's tough and I understand the fans' frustration. They want to see exciting football at this stadium and we're just not producing it at the moment.

"We need to just gather ourselves together and hopefully go to Stoke and put on a performance that is above the last three. There was commitment on the pitch, a lot of good commitment - we actually had some decent performances, but United were too good."

Newcastle sit in ninth place in the Premier League table.
