Ayoze Perez: 'Newcastle United can finish higher next season'

Newcastle United forward Ayoze Perez insists that the club must keep improving on the pitch to climb up the table next season.

Newcastle United forward Ayoze Perez has insisted that his side must keep improving to finish higher in the table next season.

The Magpies finished 10th in the Premier League last term, enjoying a positive return to the top flight of English football.

Perez, who scored twice against Chelsea on the final day of the campaign, believes that the club can continue to impress in the league.

"The football club has to keep getting better," the 24-year-old told reporters.

"Things are improving but still there are lots of things we can do better to make sure we finish higher in the future. We need to keep improving, everyone at the club needs to keep getting better and that's the main thing. We all have to help each other get better, then the future can be bright.

"Against Chelsea on the final day of the season you could feel the connection between the players and the fans. The atmosphere and environment at St James' Park was unbelievable. The supporters helped us get wins across the season and to keep us in the division and to finish in 10th place. The fans are a crucial part of this club and we as players are really happy to play in this environment."

Newcastle beat Chelsea 3-0 in their season finale at home in the Premier League.
