Newcastle United allegedly face competition from Roma as they bid to complete a successful takeover.
Over the past two months, a Saudi Arabia-based consortium, which involves Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, has been in discussions to purchase Newcastle from Mike Ashley.
While a number of stumbling blocks have been encountered, the Premier League and Football Association are currently expected to eventually give the green light to the deal.
However, according to the Daily Star, Roma are monitoring the situation and are ready to step in if the proposal does not get over the line.
Although it is stressed that Roma owner James Palotta has no intention of sabotaging any deal, it is suggested that he is willing to hand Bin Salman an opportunity to hold discussions in the future.
Any successful takeover is likely to lead to that respective club being provided with significant funds in the transfer market.
