Mathieu Debuchy close to agreeing Newcastle United move

Newcastle United are reportedly very close to signing French international Mathieu Debuchy.

Newcastle United have reportedly made a significant breakthrough that could see Mathieu Debuchy finally complete a move to Tyneside.

The French international has been the subject of tough negotiations between Newcastle and Lille for the past few weeks.

Alan Pardew may finally be in a position to sign the 26-year-old defender after meeting Lille's valuation, according to the Evening Standard.

With current right-back Danny Simpson still refusing to sign a new contract, Debuchy's signature is seen as vital ahead of the new season.

Newcastle begin their Premier League campaign at home to Tottenham Hotspur on August 18.
