Newcastle United have reportedly lodged a bid of £25m to bring Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette to the Premier League this month.
The 24-year-old recently insisted that he would be "ready" to leave the Ligue 1 side this summer, although the Magpies are said to be keen to make the deal happen in the winter window as they continue their fight for top-flight survival.
The fee of £25m would represent a new club record for the Mike Ashley-backed side, who previously paid a top figure of £17.5m to bring in Michael Owen from Real Madrid in 2005.
Lacazette, who has a respectable hit rate of seven goals in 16 appearances for Lyon this campaign, is also being monitored by Arsenal and Manchester United.
Newcastle moved out of the Premier League relegation zone on Saturday with a 2-1 win over West Ham United.
