Football Association: 'No plans for 18-team Premier League'

The Football Association dismisses reports that it will ask for the Premier League to be reduced to 18 teams.

The Football Association has dismissed reports suggesting that it wants the Premier League to be cut to 18 teams.

A report in The Times claimed that FA chairman Greg Dyke was set to speak to Premier League boss Richard Scudamore about cutting two teams from the division.

"The FA has no plans to call for a reduction in the number of teams in the Premier League," a spokesman said.

The possible reduction was first reported as a way to allow a winter break in the Premier League season.
