Martin Canning backs Alex Neil to lead Norwich City into Premier League

Hamilton Academical boss Martin Canning believes that Alex Neil can take Norwich City into the Premier League through the playoffs.

Hamilton Academical manager Martin Canning believes that former boss Alex Neil has what it takes to guide Norwich City into the Premier League.

The Canaries will participate in the Championship playoffs after narrowly missing out on automatic promotion.

Canning believes that his friend and former teammate Neil can repeat the trick of last season, when he guided the Accies into the Scottish Premiership via the playoffs.

"I think he can get them promoted," Canning told The Herald. "He has got a good squad and Alex is great at what he does. He came through the playoffs with us last year so it would be great if he could do it at that level. It would be a huge achievement for him.

"It would be great. From a personal point of view, he would be delighted. But he is so focused and driven, he won't be thinking about himself. He will just be thinking about getting the club up and getting them into the Premier League."

Canning took charge of Hamilton when Neil left for Carrow Road in January.
