Iwan Roberts shocked by Neil Adams exit

Former Norwich City striker Iwan Roberts has admitted that he was surprised by Neil Adams's decision to step down as manager.

Former Norwich City striker Iwan Roberts has admitted that he was surprised by Neil Adams's decision to leave the club.

The Canaries boss stepped down from his position on Monday, claiming that the side needed a positive upturn in their results.

Despite being shocked by the decision, Roberts believes that Adams was out of his depth at Carrow Road.

"I think he's been naive at times - putting so much emphasis on attacking football it looked at times his team had forgotten how to defend," Clubcall.com quotes Roberts as saying.

"Nothing really surprises me in football but I have to admit it did come as a bit of a shock to me when I heard that Neil had resigned.

"The season hasn't panned out how everybody had hoped. Norwich are just outside the playoff positions but 10 points behind Ipswich and 11 behind Bournemouth, who occupy the automatic positions, which just isn't good enough for a boss who probably has the best squad in the league."

First-team coach Mike Phelan will take temporary charge of the side until a permanent successor to Adams is found.
