Nottingham Forest put five past West Ham United

A hat-trick from Jamie Paterson helps Nottingham Forest to a dominant 5-0 win over West Ham United in this afternoon's FA Cup third-round clash.

Nottingham Forest dominated a young West Ham United side this afternoon, beating them 5-0 to secure a palace in the FA Cup fourth round.

Jamie Paterson came close to breaking away for the home side after six minutes, but the Hammers defence recovered well to deny the opportunity.

Soon after, Stewart Downing tested the Championship side with a teasing cross, although the defence stood firm and cleared the danger.

Forest were given the chance to take the lead two minutes later when the referee awarded a penalty for George Moncur's trip on Paterson.

Djamel Abdoun stepped up and audaciously chipped the ball past the goalkeeper to make it 1-0 to Billy Davies's side.

Ravel Morrison threatened with a free kick on 24 minutes, but the goalkeeper did well to tip the ball over the bar.

After some patient build-up, Forest came close again when Abdoun's cross found Greg Halford, but his header was too close to the goalkeeper.

Paterson doubled Forest's lead on 65 minutes, finding the bottom corner after Halford jad won the ball to set up the chance.

Forest continued to push forward against West Ham's young side and made it 3-0 on 70 minutes, with Paterson getting his second of the game via a deflection.

Paterson completed his hat-trick on 78 minutes, feinting his way past defenders in the area before finding the bottom corner to send his side into the fourth round.

Andy Reid made it 5-0 on 90 minutes, emphatically finishing from inside the area after being picked out by Abdoun.
