Under-embargo Nottingham Forest win £250,000 for transfers

Nottingham Forest, a day after being placed under a transfer embargo, ironically win Sky Bet's January transfer fund of £250,000.

Under-embargo Championship side Nottingham Forest have ironically been drawn as the winners of Sky Bet's Transfer Fund, pocketing £250,00 to spend in next month's transfer window.

Forest, who were yesterday named as one of three Championship teams to have broken Financial Fair Play rules, will not be able to spend the money on transfer fees because of the embargo.

It can, however, be used to pay the wages for free transfers and loan signings in the January window.

The final draw had 10 entries and nine clubs had the chance to win the prize, with Leeds United, another of the embargoed sides, having its name twice in the pot.

Forest fan Shaun Lander was picked as the winner by Sky Sports News presenters Jim White and Natalie Sawyer, winning £5,000 for himself and £250,000 for his favourite team.

The other teams who could have won the prize were Cardiff City, Exeter City, Fulham, Huddersfield Town, Southend United, Watford and Wigan Athletic.
