Two second-half goals have given PEC Zwolle a 2-0 win over FC Utrecht in the opening match of the new Eredivisie season this evening.

Jody Lukoki created an early chance for the home side when he crossed the ball in for Ryan Thomas just two minutes into the tie, but the winger's header went just over.

Mark Diemers had the best chance of the first half for Utrecht, but his free kick was held by Diederik Boer in the Zwolle goal.

Jesper Drost came close to opening the scoring shortly before the break when he looked to curl the ball in from the edge of the box, narrowly missing the target.

Boer came under pressure at the start of the second half as Leon de Kogel unleashed a powerful shot for the visitors, but the home keeper punched the initial effort before his defenders made the clearance.

The opening goal finally came 15 minutes from full time when Drost met a high ball into the box from Lukoki before firing in from a tight angle.

Jens Toornstra tried to force a late equaliser when he rounded Joost Broerse, but blasted his finish straight at Boer.

His miss allowed substitute Sofian Moro to put the result beyond doubt as Robin Ruiter was caught out of the Utrecht box following a corner, allowing the striker to slot the ball into an empty net.
