Half-Time Report: Marcus Maddison double gives Peterborough narrow lead

Marcus Maddison's double gives Peterborough United a 2-1 lead over Colchester United in League One after three goals in five minutes at London Road.

Marcus Maddison's quickfire double has given Peterborough United a 2-1 half-time lead over Colchester United at London Road.

After a scrappy opening, Colchester had the first real chance of the half on 25 minutes when George Moncur's shot from outside the box was saved by Ben Alnwick.

Two minutes later Conor Washington could have opened the scoring for the home side but could only poke wide from close range.

On the half-hour mark the game exploded into life when Darren Ambrose's pass released Gavin Massey, and the midfielder's first-time cross was smashed in by Macauley Bonne.

That goal seemed to wake the home side up, however, and Maddison fired into the top corner just over a minute later for the equaliser.

An incredible five minutes was completed 11 minutes before the break when Maddison's low shot from the edge of the area squirmed past Elliot Parish to turn the game on its head.
