Patrick Vieira: 'PSG positive for French football'

Patrick Vieira says that Paris Saint-Germain are having a positive effect on French football.

Patrick Vieira has said that Paris Saint-Germain's meteoric transition into a European superpower will be a good thing for French football in general.

Les Parisiens have spent big since being taken over by the mega-rich Qatar Investment Authority, acquiring the likes of Javier Pastore, Thiago Silva and Zlatan Ibrahimovic for over £30m apiece.

Former French international Vieira believes that PSG's wealth has made Ligue 1 a more attractive option for quality players.

"Paris Saint-Germain are doing something really good for the league, for French football in general, because they are bringing talents and when you bring in talents you bring in fans, and when you bring in fans you bring in media, and when you are bringing media you are bringing in the whole world," Vieira told Ligue1.com.

"So I believe that bringing players like Ibrahimovic and Silva is helping French football to become well known all around the world. So I believe that is positive for French football."

Two goals from another marquee signing, Ezequiel Lavezzi, secured PSG's place in the last 16 of the Champions League with a 2-0 victory over Dyanmo Kiev last night.
