Adama Diomande scores last-minute winner for Hull City

Adama Diomande scores a 90th-minute winner for Hull City as the Tigers record a 2-1 victory over Queens Park Rangers in the Championship on New Year's Day.

Queens Park Rangers are now six games without a win in the Championship after losing 2-1 at home to Hull City on New Year's Day.

Abel Hernandez, after a pass from Mohamed Diame, sent Hull into the lead just past the hour, but QPR were level in the 86th minute when Sebastian Polter headed a Matt Phillips cross into the back of the net.

That was not the end of the scoring, however, with Adama Diomande's close-range finish from a Sam Clucas cross securing all the points for Hull in the 90th minute.

It was the visitors that made the brighter start in London and Diame flashed a low shot wide of the post in the fourth minute, before Ahmed Elmohamady struck wide of Rob Green's goal four minutes later.

Grant Hall and Alejandro Faurlin came closest for QPR just past the 30-minute mark, but the two teams headed down the tunnel level after a tight first period at Loftus Road.

The first serious chance of the second half fell to the Tigers and it brought a goal as Hernandez showed his scoring instincts from inside the box.

Polter got on the end of a long throw from Nedum Onouha in the 68th minute as the hosts came close to an equaliser, but the German squeezed his effort wide off the post, before Paul Konchesky hit the side-netting after strong wing play from Phillips.

Polter was to have another chance, however, and this time the striker did not miss as he converted a Phillips cross to level the scores late on. Both teams had opportunities to win it in the final moments, but David Meyler fired over for Hull, before Leroy Fer headed over from six yards for the hosts.

There was to be late drama, however, with Diomande's close-range finish enough to secure all the points for Hull and make it another miserable afternoon for the R's. The result has left Hull third in the table, while QPR remain in 15th.
