Alex Rae: 'Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha has gambled in transfer market'

Former Rangers midfielder Alex Rae says that the club's head coach Pedro Caixinha has gambled in the transfer market.

Former midfielder Alex Rae has admitted that he would have liked to have seen more British players join Rangers ahead of next season.

Head coach Pedro Caixinha has been busy in the transfer market with eight new faces already arriving at Ibrox, but Ryan Jack is currently the only domestic-based player.

Caixinha has insisted that he has not taken 'a gamble', but Rae thinks that the Portuguese boss should have placed more faith in players who are familiar with Scotland's top flight.

The 47-year-old is quoted by The Scotsman as saying: "It was always going be the case that Pedro would recruit players who he was familiar with and he's done that. His knowledge and his work experience hasn't been in the British game so it doesn't surprise me that he's brought people in from places where he's worked [previously].

"Most people I have spoken to have asked where the British element is to his plans. Pedro is on record saying that this isn't a gamble but I actually think it's a bigger gamble going the way he has. If you look historically at Scottish football then there haven't been that many South American success stories."

Rae made 44 appearances for Rangers in all competitions between 2004 and 2006.
