Dean Shiels opened the scoring after just three minutes but Will Vaulks responded 14 minutes later to temporarily level things back up for the Bairns.
James Tavernier scored his ninth goal of the season to secure the points before Lee Wallace completed the scoring in stoppage time.
Hibernian rose to third with a 3-0 victory against Queen of the South after goals from Jason Cummings and Celtic loanee Liam Henderson. Martin Boyle put the icing on the cake for Hibs in the 89th minute.
Raith Rovers rose to second after a stoppage-time winner from Jason Thomson gave them a 2-1 victory over Greenock Morton.
Elsewhere, St Mirren's nightmare start to the season continued as they were held to a draw by Alloa Athletic. After taking the lead through Lawrence Shankland, Jason Marr equalised with 15 minutes remaining to rescue a point for the Wasps.
Bottom club Livingston conceded in the 82nd minute as they lost 2-1 to Dumbarton.
