Preview: Dumbarton vs. Rangers

Sports Mole previews the Scottish Championship match between Dumbarton and Rangers at The Bet Butler Stadium as the visitors go in chase of leaders Hearts.

Dumbarton discover the difficulty of a competitive 2014-15 Scottish Championship on Saturday when they welcome Rangers a week after facing Hearts.

Not since 1985 have Dumbarton been in the same league as two of the country's football giants.

The first ever Scottish champions were battered 5-1 by Hearts last Saturday and will be wary of a similar fate as Ally McCoist's side go in chase of the table toppers.

Rangers are already nine points behind Hearts, who have dropped only two points from their 10 games this season, and have failed their two big early-season tests against the Maroons and Hibernian.

They were, though, too much for the Sons when they met earlier in the season, running out 4-1 winners at Ibrox, and they bettered that scoreline last Saturday with a 6-1 thrashing of Raith Rovers.

McCosit is expected to make two changes to the side which beat East Fife 2-0 on Tuesday to book their place in the semi-finals of the Petrofac Training Cup, with Lewis MacLeod returning for David Templeton.

Three goals in his last two games should be enough for Jon Daly to keep his place as one of two strikers, and therefore Kenny Miller faces missing out, with Kris Boyd replacing Nicky Clark from the cup side.

Dumbarton were unbeaten in six games prior to the defeat by Hearts, but have found goals hard to come by since the injury to St Johnstone loanee Chris Kane, who had previously netted two in three matches.

Mitchel Megginson and Colin Nish will probably be paired together up front as the Sons attempt to improve on the division's joint-worst attack. Aberdeen loanee Danny Rogers could be busy in between the posts.
