Five-star Rangers maintain 100% record under Mark Warburton

Rangers put five past Raith Rovers to maintain their 100% start to the season.

Rangers have maintained their 100% record under Mark Warburton in style by thrashing Raith Rovers 5-0 in the Scottish Championship this afternoon.

It took the Gers just four minutes to storm into an early lead, skipper Lee Wallace curling a shot into the bottom corner after Martyn Waghorn flicked a free kick into his path.

Rangers were utterly dominant in the opening stages, causing Raith all kinds of problems through Arsenal loanee Gedion Zelalem and skilful youngster Nathan Oduwa, who is on loan from Tottenham Hotspur.

They combined in the 27th minute, allowing Zelalem to leave his marker behind and beat Raith goalkeeper Kevin Cuthbert with a strike that was hacked clear by the last man.

Warburton's men continued to ask all of the questions and they bagged a deserved second on the stroke of half time when Oduwa floated a cross into the box for James Tavernier to smash beyond Cuthbert.

Rangers started the second half brightly but were almost pegged back in the 51st minute when Jon Daly lined up James Craigen unmarked in front of goal, Gers goalkeeper Wes Foderingham meeting the striker's effort with an instinctive save to tip the ball over.

One-way traffic soon resumed and the Gers made it three in the 55th minute through Barrie McKay, who turned in Oduwa's cut-back from close range to put his side out of sight.

They fourth came less than ten minutes later from the penalty spot after Waghorn was felled in the area. The former Wigan Athletic man stepped up to take the kick himself and made no mistake from 12 yards.

Raith paid the penalty again five minutes later as Lewis Toshney brought down Oduwa in the box, allowing Waghorn to add a second to his tally from the spot.

Waghorn had the opportunity to make it a hat-trick in the final minute when he collected the ball in front of goal and got a shot away, only to put it over the bar.

The win leaves Rangers top of the Scottish Championship with 15 points out of a possible 15, while Raith drop below Hibernian and Greenock Morton to sixth.
