Reading sign Dutch winger Roy Beerens from Hertha Berlin

Reading confirm the signing of two-time Netherlands international winger Roy Beerens on a three-year deal from Hertha Berlin.

Reading have announced the signing of winger Roy Beerens from Hertha Berlin for an undisclosed fee.

The Royals fought off competition from a number of other clubs to sign the 28-year-old, who has penned a three-year deal at the Madejski Stadium.

The two-time Netherlands international had been at Hertha since 2014, but now moves to Reading to link up with manager and compatriot Jaap Stam.

"Roy has a lot of qualities – he is a winger that can play on either the left or the right, and technically he is very strong. He has pace, he can score goals and create chances for others," Stam told the club's official website.

"I think he is going to be a player the fans will enjoy watching. We want players who are comfortable on the ball, can use possession and create things. So when the opportunity to sign him arose, Brian Tevreden began talks with his agent immediately and now we're very happy that Roy is joining us."

Reading chief executive Nigel Howe added: "We are delighted to have won the race to sign an attacking player of Roy's stature. Having spent his entire career in top-flight football, and with international and European football also on his CV, I am sure he will prove a valuable addition to a squad which is really beginning to take shape."

Beerens could make his competitive debut for the Royals when they host Preston North End in their first match of the new Championship season on August 6.
