Bale fired the hosts ahead after just three minutes, driving the ball into the bottom corner from a Daniel Carvajal through-ball.
The Welshman had the ball in the back of the net again a few minutes later, but was found to be offside, denying him his second of the night.
Real continued to dominate the first half, with Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo both having chances inside the opening 25 minutes.
The continued pressure paid off as the home side were able to double their lead before the half-hour mark when Isco curled the ball in from the edge of the box.

Kevin Grosskreutz had the best chance of the first half for the visitors, unleashing a strike from just inside the box, but Iker Casillas was able to make the save.
Bale almost extended the home side's lead further with a free kick, but was denied by a Roman Weidenfeller save, ensuring that the Germans remained just two goals down at the break.
