Pepe disagrees with Xavi claims

Real Madrid defender Pepe insists that his team are not purely a counter-attacking outfit after Xavi's criticism of their tactics in their El Clasico victory.

Real Madrid defender Pepe has insisted that his team are not purely a counter-attacking side.

Barcelona midfielder Xavi claimed that his side lost 3-1 to Los Blancos due to their inability to deal with the home team's quick movement in the final third.

However, Pepe believes that Los Blancos controlled all aspects of the match at the Bernabeu.

"I don't think that's right. Our fans chanted 'ole' and that says it all," he told AS.

"They played a day earlier [in midweek] so we had less time to recover but we showed our level here. We must continue, with humility."

Pepe scored his side's second last night, after Cristiano Ronaldo had cancelled out Neymar's opener from the penalty spot. Karim Benzema made sure of the points for Madrid deep into the second half.
