Vinicius Junior breaks Lionel Messi record in El Clasico

Vinicius Junior's opening goal for Real Madrid against Barcelona saw the Brazilian break a long-standing record held by Lionel Messi.

Vinicius Junior has replaced Lionel Messi as the youngest-ever goalscorer during an El Clasico fixture.

On Sunday night, Vinicius opened the scoring before Real Madrid went on to register a 2-0 victory over Barcelona at the Bernabeu.

As well as registering just his second La Liga strike of the season, the 19-year-old also became the youngest player to net a goal in the head-to-head during the modern era.

The previous record had been set by Messi in March 2007 when the now-legendary Argentine was 26 days older than Vinicius.

The result for Los Blancos has taken them two points clear of the Catalan giants at the top of the La Liga standings.
