Real Madrid crash to Malaga defeat

Roque Santa Cruz scores twice as Malaga beat champions Real Madrid 3-2 at La Rosaleda in La Liga.

Real Madrid have slumped to a fourth defeat of the season in La Liga with a 3-2 loss at Malaga.

Roque Santa Cruz scored twice for the hosts at La Rosaleda to put Jose Mourinho's side 16 points behind leaders Barcelona.

The best chance of a goalless first half fell Madrid's way as Cristiano Ronaldo somehow put the ball over the bar from six yards following Karim Benzema's cross.

Malaga opened the scoring just four minutes into the second half when Isco slotted in after good work from Joaquin.

However, the visitors got back on terms in fortunate circumstances with 66 minutes on the clock as Sergio Sanchez converted into his own net.

The home side were back in front on 72 minutes when Santa Cruz was on hand to fire in from Joaquin's cross.

Madrid's world was soon collapsing around them as the hosts extended their lead through Santa Cruz's low strike just four minutes later.

Los Blancos pulled a goal back in the 82nd minute as Benzema found the target from close range, but it was not enough for the defending champions.
