La Liga president Javier Tebas says that Neymar could retire at Paris Saint-Germain due to the finances surrounding the deal.

La Liga president Javier Tebas has claimed that Neymar will retire at Paris Saint-Germain unless both his salary demands and the French club's asking price are lowered.

Neymar was strongly linked with a return to Barcelona during the summer transfer window, while Real Madrid were also credited with an interest in the Brazil international.

Neither club could agree a deal with PSG, though, with the Ligue 1 champions believed to value the 27-year-old in excess of £200m.

According to Tebas, no club in world football will be able to sign Neymar from PSG unless both parties make adjustments when it comes to their own requirements.

"The problem of not coming back now [to Barcelona] has to do with his own departure to PSG," Tebas told reporters. "It was an off-market transfer, it was only possible to happen with 'traps' to increase sponsorships.

"When you do it out of the market, it is impossible to sell again at this price. In view of the market, Neymar will retire at PSG unless he lowers his salary and also his PSG claims."

The South American is yet to represent PSG this season, having been left out of their squad in the early weeks amid the uncertainty surrounding his future.
