Real Madrid and Napoli reportedly reach an impasse in negotiations over a possible deal for Colombia international James Rodriguez.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is refusing to budge in negotiations with Napoli over a potential deal for James Rodriguez, according to a report.

Rodriguez has not played for Los Blancos since 2017, having spent the past two years on loan at Bayern Munich, but the German giants opted against making that deal permanent at the end of the 2018-19 campaign.

The Colombia international has consequently returned to the Bernabeu, although manager Zinedine Zidane is understood to deem him surplus to requirements in the Spanish capital.

Napoli are leading the race for his signature, with former Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti having earmarked the attacking midfielder as his number one transfer target this summer.

The Italian outfit's president Aurelio De Laurentiis has opened talks over a deal, but Gazzetta dello Sport reports that he has reached an impasse with Madrid counterpart Perez.

Perez is holding out for a bigger offer as he looks to recoup some of the £300m+ Madrid have already spent this summer, while he has not ruled out the possibility of keeping Rodriguez at the club.

Rodriguez himself is thought to be desperate to move to Napoli in search of regular first-team football.
