Tebas: 'Real Madrid likely to sign Mbappe'

La Liga chief Javier Tebas suggests that Real Madrid are well placed to afford the signing of Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe next summer.

La Liga chief Javier Tebas has backed Real Madrid to eventually sign Kylian Mbappe next summer.

The Spanish giants have been long-term suitors of the France international, initially missing out on his signature in 2022.

However, Real were not in a position to capitalise on the new uncertainty surrounding Mbappe's future at Paris Saint-Germain earlier this year.

Los Blancos had already committed to the big-money addition of Jude Bellingham and they were unable to find an out-and-out replacement for the departing Karim Benzema.

As it stands, Joselu occupies that role having signed on loan from Espanyol, yet it is an open secret that Real remain as admirers of Mbappe.

Although the 2018 World Cup winner has since been reintegrated into the PSG first-team squad, he still has less than a year remaining on his contract.

Even with the 24-year-old potentially being available on a free transfer, Real would commit to signing-on fees and wages to get a deal over the line.

While a report has indicated that they may put a total of £200m towards any proposal, Tebas has indicated that Real would be able to afford the attacker.

Speaking to Movistar Plus, Tebas said: "Convinced, convinced, no. But it is a destiny for him, for sure. Next year it will be more than 70-80%."

When La Liga revealed the spending caps for 2024-25 earlier this month, Real's was set at £627m at the same time that Barcelona's was reduced to £232m due to the ongoing financial issues.

Despite the possibility of rival interest in Mbappe, it appears a foregone conclusion that he will ultimately sign for Real at some point next year.

He remains committed to trying to deliver another Ligue 1 crown with PSG before a likely exit having already scored seven times from five outings in the top flight this campaign.

Furthermore, Mbappe scored in a 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League last week, but he is now nursing an ankle injury sustained against Marseille on Sunday.
