Real Sociedad have been held to a goalless draw at home to Villarreal in the first leg of their Copa del Rey tie.

Jonathan Pereira had a couple of good chances for the visitors in the first half but he was unable to make the most of either with La Real keeper Enaut Zubikarai in good form.

Antoine Griezmann had a good chance for the home side in the second, but he too was thwarted by some good goalkeeping as Juan Carlos denied the Frenchman just after the hour mark.

Carlos Vela had a chance late on, but Carlos was again alert to deny the Mexican striker as the Yellow Submarine held on take the stalemate back to El Madrigal.

Pereira was denied once again by Zubikarai in stoppage time in a game that was dominated by two in-form goalkeepers.
