Levante hold Real Sociedad to goalless draw

Real Sociedad miss the chance to close the gap on the top five in La Liga as they are held to a 0-0 draw by Levante.

Real Sociedad have missed the chance to close the gap on the top five in La Liga after being held to a 0-0 draw at home to Levante.

The first real chance of the match fell to the hosts when Antoine Griezmann picked out Agirretxe inside the box, but the Spanish striker was denied by a fine Keilor Navas save.

Navas was again called into action shortly afterwards as Agirretxe looked to take advantage of a loose save from the keeper, but he recovered just in time to claw the ball away.

The hosts threatened again right on the stroke of the half time as Griezmann saw an effort palmed away by Navas before being denied again by the keeper from close range.

Levante responded with a chance of their own almost immediately afterwards when David Barral found himself with a shooting opportunity, but Claudio Bravo got down well to make the save.

Sociedad had the first chance of the second half when Gonzalo Castro shot from outside the box, but Navas was on hand to make another good stop.

Carlos Vela almost broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute when he made his way to the edge of the box, but he curled his effort just past the post.

The hosts did finally get the ball in the back of the net four minutes later when Vela converted Griezmann's cross, but his celebrations were cut short by the linesman's flag.

Levante were then able to hold on for the remainder of the match for their second consecutive goalless draw.
