Roy Keane backs Republic of Ireland to 'take their medicine'

Republic of Ireland assistant boss Roy Keane says that the team will get over Friday's 1-0 defeat to Scotland and rebuild their Euro 2016 qualification bid.

Roy Keane is confident that the Republic of Ireland will 'take their medicine' and bounce back from the 1-0 defeat to Scotland in Friday's Euro 2016 qualifier.

Martin O'Neill's side went down to a Shaun Maloney goal at Celtic Park in a loss that ended their unbeaten start to Group D.

Consequently, Ireland slipped to fourth in the table, level on points with Scotland and Germany but three adrift of leaders Poland, and Keane says that it is still all to play for.

"We're obviously very disappointed and hurting," Keane, O'Neill's assistant, told Sky Sports News.

"We've got a manager who likes to win along with his staff and all his players, but there's a lot to play for and plenty of points to be won.

"I didn't expect to go through the whole campaign unbeaten - there were always going to be points dropped. We have to take the criticism, take our medicine and bounce back."

The Boys in Green face USA in a friendly on Tuesday night, but they are not back in competitive action until March when they host Poland in Dublin.
