Martin O'Neill: 'I will not prevent players from completing transfers'

Republic of Ireland boss Martin O'Neill says that he is happy to release players from the squad if they need to complete transfer moves ahead of the close of the window.

Republic of Ireland manager Martin O'Neill has revealed that he is prepared to release players from international duty to enable them to complete transfers ahead of the close of the summer window.

O'Neill is currently working with a 28-man squad ahead of their Euro 2016 Group D qualifiers against Gibraltar and Georgia, but the former Aston Villa boss has insisted that he will not prevent players from wrapping up moves in the next 24 hours.

"I said to the players beforehand that I will be prepared if somebody has to go at the last minute, either on loan somewhere, that's fine, or if it's a proper transfer," said O'Neill, according to RTE.

"The loan system is one that I think that if people are happy enough with medicals being done elsewhere, then it's a matter of a fax machine."

O'Neill's charges face Gibraltar away on Friday evening.
