Cesare Prandelli: Francesco Totti could make Italy's World Cup squad

Italy boss Cesare Prandelli admits that Roma's Francesco Totti is providing him with food for thought and says the veteran playmaker could make the squad which travels to Brazil for the World Cup.

Italy coach Cesare Prandelli has said that Francesco Totti could earn a place in his World Cup squad if he manages to sustain his high level of Roma performances throughout the campaign.

The 37-year-old, whose last appearance for the Azzurri was in the World Cup final victory over France in 2006, has been the driving force behind the Giallorossi boasting a 100% record in Serie A thus far.

Despite the long absence from the international scene, though, Prandelli admits that the legendary Italian is providing food for thought and says that the playmaker could be present in Brazil next summer.

"If we were nearing the World Cup, I'd call on Totti, without a doubt," Prandelli said.

"I hope that he can maintain his condition, as the priorities for the World Cup are related to athletics. I want players who are strong, as physical condition will be decisive.

"I have to consider many things but, at the moment, Totti is in great shape."

Totti has netted seven times in 43 appearances throughout an eight-year international career.

Italy, who have already booked their place in next summer's tournament, travel to Copenhagen to face Denmark on Friday, before concluding their qualifying campaign by hosting Armenia four days later.
