Scottish Premiership roundup: Heavy defeats for Motherwell, Ross Country

Motherwell and Ross County suffer heavy defeats in the Scottish Premiership.

Third-placed Motherwell have lost ground on Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership after falling to a 3-0 defeat against St Johnstone.

Steve MacLean's first-half brace put the Saints in command, before Gary Miller added a late third goal at McDiarmid Park.

The three points for Tommy Wright's men, who had lost their last two previous games coming into this one, cements their own position in sixth place.

Elsewhere, Ross County fell to a heavy 3-0 home defeat at the hands of Inverness Caledonian Thistle, who have closed in on a European spot.

David Raven fired the Jags ahead after eight minutes, before Billy McKay added a second prior to the half-time interval.

The third goal for the visitors came courtesy of substitute Marley Watkins, with the loss leaving County with one with in five at the wrong end of the table.

In the division's other game, Celtic's 26-game unbeaten run came to an end at the hands of Aberdeen.

Results in full: Ross County 0-3 Inverness Caledonian Thistle, St Johnstone 3-0 Motherwell, Aberdeen 2-1 Celtic.
