SFA to appoint Alex McLeish on Friday
Alex McLeish is to take charge of Scotland for a second time, with an announcement set to be made by the Scottish Football Association on Friday.

The Scottish Football Association will unveil Alex McLeish as the new manager of the Scotland senior side on Friday afternoon.

After missing out on top target Michael O'Neill, who instead opted to remain on as Northern Ireland boss, Scottish football chiefs turned their attention to McLeish.

Despite being out of work since departing Egyptian club Zamalek in May 2016, the 59-year-old was seen as the next-best candidate to succeed Gordon Strachan at the Hampden helm.

McLeish has managed Scotland once before, guiding them to the brink of a place at Euro 2008 before quitting for spells with Birmingham City, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest.

Strachan stepped down as Scotland manager in October after the disappointment of missing out on a place at this summer's World Cup finals.
