Wasteful Seattle Sounders fall to Chicago Fire defeat

Seattle Sounders are made to pay for a series of missed chances as Jason Johnson wins the game for Chicago Fire.

Jason Johnson has scored an injury-time winner to give Chicago Fire a dramatic 1-0 win over the Seattle Sounders.

The visitors had a good chance to take an early lead after four minutes, but striker Mike Magee headed wide from just a few yards out.

Seattle maintained their strong start as Gonzalo Pineda almost found Lamar Neagle with a whipped cross into the box.

Chicago quickly grew into the game and forced Troy Perkins into his first save minutes later when he was called upon to keep out Patrick Nyarko's effort.

The Sounders continued to create the better opportunities though as Chad Barrett went close with an ambitious volley, while Cristian Roldan hit the crossbar with a dipping strike on the verge of half time.

The second half saw chances become limited, but Andy Craven still came close to his first Sounders goal as he shot from close range, but it was blocked by the keeper.

The visitors continued to push hard in the closing minutes as Pineda's close-range effort was blocked on the line, while Guly do Prado forced Perkins into a late save up the other end.

However, Johnson won the game for the hosts as he cut inside from out wide and curled an unstoppable shot into the top corner.
