Javier Camunas scored nine minutes from time to hand Villarreal all three points from their trip to Sevilla this evening.
After an even opening few moments, visiting Villarreal broke the deadlock in the 21st minute. Angel sent in a cross which was met by former West Bromwich Albion midfielder Borja Valero, who instantly shot into the net from close range.
However, parity was restored in the 33rd minute when Villarreal defender Bruno put through his own net.
The match looked to be heading for a draw until Camunas collected possession from Cani and fired into the bottom corner from outside the area.
The three points have lifted Villarreal out of the relegation zone.
