UEFA clear Shakhtar Donetsk of wrongdoing over Fred squad inclusion

UEFA announce that Shakhtar Donetsk are free to pick Fred despite him failing a doping test at the Copa America.

UEFA have announced that Shakhtar Donetsk were free to pick midfielder Fred in last week's Champions League fixture with Fenerbahce.

The decision comes after the midfielder failed a doping test, testing positive for the banned diuretic hydrochlorothiazide during this summer's Copa America.

Turkish side Fenerbahce suggested that Fred should not have featured in the 0-0 draw last Tuesday, but UEFA have cleared the Ukrainian club of any wrongdoing.

UEFA had previously advised Shakhtar not to pick the 22-year-old, but South American confederation CONMEBOL have not enforced a ban on the player.

Fred could feature in the second leg of the fixture on August 5.
