Sheffield United striker Leon Clarke signs new contract

Sheffield United announce that Leon Clarke, who leads the Championship scoring charts this season, is now under contract at Bramall Lane until 2020.

Sheffield United striker Leon Clarke has extended his contract at Bramall Lane by a further two and a half years.

The 32-year-old, who leads the scoring charts in the Championship with 14 goals to his name, is now under terms with the Blades until the summer of 2020.

United boss Chris Wilder is happy to have reached an agreement with Clarke and his representatives, having seen the much-travelled forward hit the form of his life this season.

"Leon warrants this and is deserving of this," he told the club's official website. "We're delighted to get this done. Leon has become a hugely important player for us and we see him becoming even more important in the future."

Clarke added: "I wanted this to happen and I'm delighted the club wanted it to happen as well. It's not taken long at all to sort out because I'm happy and everyone was on the same page."

The former Wolverhampton Wanderers and Bury ace has skippered sixth-placed United in their last two outings.
