Report: Neil Warnock emerges as Sheffield Wednesday target

Former Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock is reportedly a shock contender to take over from Dave Jones at their managerless rivals, Sheffield Wednesday.

Former Sheffield United favourite Neil Warnock is apparently a shock candidate to take charge at their fierce rivals Sheffield Wednesday.

The Owls, second from bottom of the Championship, are searching for a new manager after deciding to sack Dave Jones following only one win in their opening 16 games.

Rotherham United's Steve Evans and former England Under-21 boss Stuart Pearce are among the early frontrunners to replace him, but the Daily Mail claims that Warnock is a contender.

The 65-year-old, a lifelong Blades fan, is one of United's most successful managers in recent years, having guided them to the Premier League during his seven-year reign, which ended in 2007.

Wednesday chiefs will apparently gauge the reaction of his potential appointment with their fans before making an approach for Warnock, who is unemployed after leaving Leeds United in April.
