Sheffield Wednesday have reportedly targeted former England Under-21 coach Stuart Pearce as a potential successor to Dave Jones.
The 51-year-old has been without a job since being released by the Football Association following a disappointing European Championship campaign during the summer.
According to The Mirror, Owls owner Milan Mandaric will offer him a route back into club management after parting company with Jones yesterday.
A 2-0 defeat on Saturday was the final nail in the coffin of the former Stockport County, Southampton, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Cardiff City manager.
He left the Yorkshire club languishing in the Championship relegation zone, six points from safety.
However, they do have a game in hand on their rivals.
