A reporter and friend of Rafael Benitez denies claims that the former Liverpool boss is being considered for the management job at Southampton.

Spanish journalist Guillem Balague has insisted that there is "nothing at all" in the speculation that has linked Rafael Benitez with the management job at Southampton.

Some reports have claimed that the pressure is already on current Saints boss Nigel Adkins, who has seen his side lose all four of their matches back in the Premier League so far.

As a result, former Liverpool manager Benitez has been linked with replacing Adkins, should the club decide to end his tenure.

However, Balague, who is known to have a good relationship with Benitez, has rubbished the rumours by saying on Twitter: "Nothing at all in the link of Rafa Benitez and Southampton."

Benitez spent six years with Liverpool up until 2010.
