Jose Fonte urges Southampton teammates to "just shoot"

Jose Fonte says that Southampton's attack-minded players need to start shooting from anywhere in a bid to end their goalscoring drought.

Southampton captain Jose Fonte has encouraged his teammates to be less cautious over where they shoot from.

The Saints have failed to find the net in their last three outings, which has seen them slip out of the Champions League places for the first time since December.

Ahead of tomorrow night's meeting with Crystal Palace, Fonte has urged the attack-minded players in the team to try their luck from anywhere.

"We're not finding the net. It's frustrating but we need to take responsibility," the centre-back told BBC Radio Solent.

"No-one will criticise if you try and something doesn't come off. At least try and make something happen. Just shoot - it might hit someone and deflect in. That's what we've got to keep trying."

In total, Ronald Koeman's men have scored 38 goals in 27 Premier League matches this term.
