Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has revealed that the club has opened talks with Nathaniel Clyne over a new contract.
The 23-year-old defender was on the scoresheet last night as the Saints earned a 1-1 draw at Aston Villa in the Premier League.
Clyne's current deal is due to expire at the end of next season, but Koeman is hopeful that the England international will pen fresh terms soon.
"I know Clyney's contract has one year left after this season, so it's normal to do something now to keep that player," the Dutchman is quoted as saying by BBC Sport. "Have those talks already started? Of course, you cannot wait until next season.
"He is a fantastic player which he has showed since the start of the season. If there is interest, we will hear about that and we will try everything to keep him here because he is a fantastic football player."
Southampton are next in action on Sunday when they host champions Manchester City in the league.
