Barcelona have moved to the top of La Liga with a 1-0 win at bottom-placed Sporting Gijon.
The visitors took the lead on 11 minutes when Adriano's deflected shot found the net after Xavi had struck the post.
However, Pep Guardiola's side did not have it all their own way after that as the home side were able to nullify the threat of Lionel Messi.
Barca continued to push though, but they were unable to extend their lead due to some dogged defending from a Gijon team who have picked up only one point from their last 15.
