Basel and Tottenham Hotspur finish the first half 1-1 in the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie in Switzerland.

Basel and Tottenham Hotspur have ended the first half 1-1 in the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie in Switzerland.

Despite the score being 3-3 on aggregate, the hosts will be going through on away goals.

Following an even opening, Mohamed Salah volleyed well over the crossbar for the hosts after being picked out at the back post by Philipp Degen.

Tottenham's first opportunity came midway through the half when Gylfi Sigurdsson sliced his shot wide from 25 yards.

The visitors took the lead soon after as Clint Dempsey took advantage of Aleksandar Dragovic's botched clearance to round goalkeeper Yann Sommer and slot in.

However, Basel got themselves level on the night three minutes later when Salah poked past Brad Friedel having been gifted the ball by Moussa Dembele.

Spurs could have regained the initiative 10 minutes before the break, only for Sommer to keep out Dembele's curled strike.
